c) Jotun

JOTUN Malaysia Sdn Bhd expects its turnover to grow 10 per cent this year with the opening of a RM160 million plant in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

The company, owned by Norway's Jotun A/S, posted a RM342 million turnover last year.

Jotun controls 20 per cent share of the local paint market and expects this to increase to 25 per cent within 10 years, its regional director for Southeast Asia and managing director for Malaysia, Peder Bohlin said.

"Jotun plans to invest a further RM100 million over the next 10 years as part of its expansion drive. We aim to boost the number of authorised dealers from 600 to 850," he said at the launch of the 93,000 sq m paint and coating manufacturing plant yesterday

Also present was Jotun AS chairman, Odd Gleditsch 3, the grandson of the founder of Jotun, who said the new facility, the largest of its kind in Asia-Pacific, was the fourth to be opened in Malaysia. It was built based on the latest technology and best environmental solutions.

"We are committed to continuously investing in Malaysia to make sure that we have the necessary foundation for future growth. We are here because of market opportunities and we believe in producing close to our market and customers," Gleditsch added.

Later, after a tour of the facility, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan launched the plant and said he was not only impressed by the sophisticated facilities but also proud that Nilai is part of the expanding Penguin family.
