NILAI, April 22 (Bernama) -- Popular wholesale and retail centre in Negeri
Sembilan, Nilai 3, will be upgraded to become a modern shopping haven of
international standards.
Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri
Yaakob said the area still had available land for development and the ministry
was trying to draw companies like Ikano and Courts as well as international
hypermarket operators to invest in Nilai 3.
He did not spell out the investment value targeted.
"The government wants to help the operators here, we want to attract more
people including Singaporeans and Bruneians to shop here. It is a business
product which we can assist," he told reporters after visiting Nilai 3 today.
He said the government would discuss with the potential investors about the
area''s potential.
As part of the Nilai 3 development plan, a more organised and modern food
bazaar would be built before other projects which were still under discussion,
Ismail Sabri said.
He said that besides Nilai 3, the government also planned to develop
Nusajaya in Johor as another viable shopping area.
"All these are part of the government''s plan to develop the country''s
economy and boost the people''s economic status through the retail and wholesale
sectors which are among the 12 National Key Economic Areas," he said.
